MEET OUR INSTRUCTORS

Training and education is a cornerstone of living the shooting sports lifestyle. We have selected a core group of trainers with decades of teaching, training, and mentoring experience in all skill levels. The diversity of our instructors' experiences helps us deliver a wide ranging course catalog. All of our trainers have a passion to teach and pass on the lessons they have learned. Listed below is a brief bio of the training and practical experience each of our trainers possess.



Tim Milletics - Range & Training Lead 


Tim has been an avid shooter and collector of firearms for over 35 years. His passion for shooting started with a Ruger single six and Marlin model 60 many years ago. He enjoys all forms of shooting, but specifically enjoys handgun target shooting. Over the years he has enjoyed collecting firearms, reloading and participating in club sponsored shooting events. He belongs to several local clubs where he promotes safe gun handling practices by supporting club training and shooting event activities. Tim is certified in First Aid, CPR and AED, holds a concealed carry permit and ACT 235 certification. He is a certified basic pistol instructor (NRA) & Range Safety Officer.

Tim holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Millersville University and has been a member of the American Society for Industrial Security for the past 30 years, successfully completing training courses in Asset Protection, Investigations in the Workplace, Interviewing & Interrogation Techniques, OSHA 10 & 40 hour Safety programs, Domestic Terrorism, Surveillance Detection, Violence in the Workplace, Evasive Driving and Accident Avoidance, Lethal and non-lethal Weapons.

Married with one son, he has lived and worked in the Harrisburg area, enjoying worldwide travel while employed as a corporate security manager/trainer for a local manufacturing company. Now retired, he joins the Trop team to share his passion for shooting and educating others to promote responsible firearms ownership.


Mike O'Donovan


Mike has been a shooting enthusiast and firearms instructor for over sixty years and still has his first gun, a .22 caliber (short, long, and long rifle) single-shot, bolt-action Remington rifle he received on his 13th birthday.

As a former U.S. Army Infantry and Military Police Officer, Mike honed his shooting skills on a variety of individual and crew-served weapons. As the former Branch Chief and Senior Instructor for the U.S. Army Military Police School, Europe, Mike managed the specialized military police, installation physical security, and security of nuclear weapons and ammunition training for U.S. and N.A.T.O. military and civilian personnel.

As a Peace Officer Standards and Training certified Nevada State Law Enforcement Officer, Mike managed the state law enforcement academy. In addition to being one of the primary instructors, Mike was certified by the F.B.I. as a combat firearms (pistol and shotgun) instructor. Later, Mike transferred to the Nevada law enforcement agency that regulates casino gambling. During this tenure rose to the rank of Senior Enforcement Agent and was the agency’s representative on the interstate criminal intelligence unit. In addition, Mike was one of two agents assigned as the Executive Protection Agent for the Chairman of the Nevada State Gaming Control Board and completed a specialized body guard training course at the Los Angeles Police Department for this role.

Mike holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Law Enforcement and Corrections from the Pennsylvania State University and a Master’s degree in Education from Boston University. Mike also was certified as a Basic and Intermediate Police Officer in Nevada and held a vocational teacher’s certificate in Police Science. Mike was certified under PAs Act 235 and has four year’s tenure as an Adjunct Instructor in Criminal Justice with Central Texas Community College.

Sue Smith


I am the wife of a wonderful husband and I’m a mother of two. I live and work in Central Pennsylvania. I work full-time with my local school district on the support side of school business. I was in the Army, USAR for a few years after high school. I love the great outdoors, hiking, biking, rock climbing, kayaking and my favorite hobby is shooting and training. I enjoy recreational shooting and defensive training. One course with Direct Action Tactical in 2013 leads to another and another and quickly evolved into a dedication and desire to learn more. I am active in the training industry as a student and instructor with a primary focus on personal protection and self-defense.

I hold the NRA Pistol Instructor and Range Safety Officer Certifications.

I work part-time as a RSO and Instructor for Trop Gun Shop and I RSO for our local A Girl And A Gun Chapter.

I’m an A.L.I.C.E. Instructors for Critical Incident/Active Threat Training for my local school district.

I hold the Act 235 Certified Agent Certification, Lethal Weapons Training Act With Firearms through the Pennsylvania State Police.


John Yankowski


1SG John Yankowski, U.S. Army National Guard (Ret.). A former member Michigan’s elite Long Range Surveillance (LRS) Unit; Company F, 425th Infantry (Airborne). Shortly after 11 Sept 2001, he deployed in support of the Homeland Security mission to guard the U.S. and Canadian borders at the Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron, MI. Later in 2003, john was deployed in support of OIF and was awarded the Combat Action Badge, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart. Additional deployment in support of OEF from 2009-2010, serving in Kosovo as part of the international peacekeeping force (KFOR 12). John has held multiple positions as a competitor, coach and team leader on the Michigan Army National Guard Rifle, Pistol and Machine Gun Marksman Teams. His last duty assignment prior to retirement from the military was Company First Sergeant to B Co BSTB, 37th BCT.

Certifications by Organizations & Disciplines: United States Army: Master Marksmanship Trainer, Small Arms Master Gunner, Squad Designated Marksman. National Rifle Association (NRA): Home Firearm Safety, Certified Pistol, Certified Rifle Chief Range Safety Officer, Metallic Cartridge & Shotgun Shell Reloading, Personal Protection In The Home Personal and Protection Outside The Home. Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP): Master Instructor, certified to teach CMP sanctioned Garand, Springfield and Vintage Military Rifle or Rimfire Sporter Clinics, Certified Range Safety Office Level I & II, Act 235 Certification. John currently is a member of the York Riflemen High Power Team and holds an NRA Master Classification for High Power Rifle. He currently resides in South Central Pennsylvania and is a married and the father of four adult children.


Jim McIntyre


Jim has been an active NRA law enforcement firearms and first aid instructor since 1974. Prior to entering law enforcement, he was one of the first EMTs in central Pennsylvania. He has competed in NRA regional police practicalcombat, William Penn pistol league and county law enforcement competitions taking 2nd place in combat shotgun. Jim has provided training in both Pennsylvania and Virginia, where he served as chief of police for a department in the Shenandoah Valley.

Jim’s training experience includes policy academy ACT 120 and ACT 235 at Harrisburg Area Community College. He held certification by the Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Commission, Constables Academy and as Master Instructor for the Commission on Crime and Delinquency. Jim also worked for the American Red Cross as an instructor and Health and Safety Director, teaching police cadets on basic first aid and CPR.

Jim formed his own company in 1994 to support local police departments and companies with their first aid & CPR training needs. He was called upon by The American Academy of Pediatrics as a contributor in publishing training materials for pediatric caregivers and teachers.

Jim has also engaged in youth training, serving as shooting sports director at a local Boy Scout camp teaching shooting sports and with the Pennsylvania Game Commission as a Hunter-Trapper Safety instructor. He has been an active local gun club contributor, forming and managing several youth shooting programs and has recently joined Trop Gun Shop to bring his passion for instruction to teach customers the enjoyment of shooting safely and successfully.
